about

Goblin Ore is the first single release from Clara Luani's debut album, Songs from the InterCityExpress - written entirely on a mobile phone and venturing into the realms of electronic music for the first time. Goblin Ore is a complex exploration of her fascination with the chemical element Cobalt as a lyrical metaphor for deception.

lyrics

There were drums under the bridge
and moonlight on my shoes
when I got into one of Max's BMWs.
How I wished my life could be
as simple as the man behind the wheel.
If it's true that we're made of stardust,
why is it just the cobalt that I feel?

"It wasn't silver!",
cried the miner as he felt the arsenic soar.
He collapsed in a pile of night-black powder
he had smelted Goblin Ore.

All the lies you have ever been told
were forged inside the heart of a star.
(The night is a mine and an underground gallery
of mirrors and magnets, mendacious metallurgy.)

They were flung into mountains and smiles
where they're mined, and where a lot of them still are.
(The thrill of the drill and the hustle to excavate
a treasure so precious to press and appreciate.)

... if it's true that we're made of stardust...

... why is it just the cobalt that I feel?
